VW Golf R

VW 2010 Golf R photo from Car and Driver website

The BIG news yesterday was the early release of pix from VW's Golf R model--just ahead of the Frankfurt Auto Show, where its official launch was planned.

The R replaces the now "defunct" 2008 R32 AWD Golf. After a little digging on Google news, before I started this post, I was a little shocked to find that Car and Driver (then again, their inside info is why they're so great in this business) had news of the R back in January (!) of this year.

This is momentous news for me in particular because I'm devouring any newsbyte that comes out these days, about AWD hatchbacks.

I was starting to check out the Subaru Forester, since it's recent redesign has it looking like a crossover between a sporty hatchback and the Ford Escape. This little Forester may still be in the running because I'm sure the R will cost upwards of the '08 R32 did ($31K).
