A Quick Tour Through Some Small SUVs

I've been looking up small SUVs as an alternative to hatchbacks/5-door models. So what's in the running?
  • Nissan Rogue - S from @20,340, SL from $21,930 - has been said to have too soft steering
  • VW Tiguan - S from $23,200, SE from $27,200, SL from $31,265 - expensive compared to competitors, but nice and well-equipped.
  • BMW X1 - soon to come, not much known yet.
  • Subaru Forester - 5 models ranging from $20,295 to $28,495 - great ride, comfortable, trust-worthy, solid investment.
  • Subaru Outback - 6 models ranging from $22,995 to $30,995 - raised crossover ride, but has a yucky automatic.
  • Jeep Compass - Sport D from $19,350, Sport E from $21,470, and Limited from $21,015 - the Jeep line has been dumped on by almost every car magazine and review service around due to increasingly lowered quality since the early 90s.
Subaru is known for their exceptional quality and reliance, BMW is a frou-frou contender, VW Tiguan is also an almost frou-frou contender but has some strong qualities to speak for it, the Jeep and Nissan are not as highly rated in my readings as I thought they might be.

PS - Anyone else notice how ugly the new Jeep Liberty is (new Liberty vs. old Liberty)? They based it off of the Dodge Nitro. Bad mistake.
