According to a recent blog post on MSN Autos' Exhaust Notes, we are seeing The Rise of All-Wheel Drive.
Lincoln and Cadillac are promising AWD as an option to all their upcoming vehicles, and there's a trend indicating that most cars in 2015 will have the option as well.
This is puzzling because the three main aspects of AWD--weight, drag, and drive train complexity--are exactly what the doctor didn't order to meet the stricter EPA exhaust and MPG requirements.
Just this past weekend I mentioned to the significant-other unit that if I didn't live in a Northern climate with severe ice and snow issues four months out of the year, I would definitely not be interested in a 4x4 or AWD vehicle anymore.
It'll be interesting to see if this trend is mostly a geographic tendency (Northern, wintery climes) versus the generalization that it is now.
