A Brand New Box

Boxy used to be bleh and...well, Volvo. These days, boxy is a good thing. Have you also spotted a Nissan Cube, Kia Soul, or, more commonly, the Honda Element and the Scion xB?

This is the new craze, modern, affordable, compact cubic vehicles. They boast roomy interiors, good gas mileage, and affordable price points. Articles covering this phenomenon abound when conducting a search via any automotive website.

Teenagers who are used to the slick and polished lines of iPhones, iPods, and other slick toys can definitely feel an organic affinity with these slick and cute vehicles. Not to mention the ease of maneuvrability since they're so compact. I still have my doubts in view of the potential for unusual blind spots...

For car fanatics and teens alike, sometimes the draw to these little cubic wonders of modern auto engineering is not unlike that of visitors at the zoo staring at unusual animals, or passersby rubbernecking an accident on the side of the road (or a train wreck): you just can't look away.

These products are being placed in pleasantly smart and quirky ads targeting younger drivers.

Have you run into (not literally I hope) one of these little joy cubes? What do you think about the future of such a vehicle? Would you buy one?
